- 20 Centavos Monetized By The Government Of Philippines
- The 20 Centavos (Small Type) coin from the Philippines, issued between 1907 and 1929, captures a unique period of Philippine history under the American Insular Government. Crafted with precision and artistry, the obverse of the coin presents a standing woman, symbolizing the strength and resilience of the Filipino people. She holds a hammer on an anvil, representing industry and progress, with a smoking volcano in the background, perhaps symbolizing both the beauty and power of nature in the Philippines. The inscription "TWENTY CENTAVOS" and "FILIPINAS" surround her figure, proudly acknowledging the nation's heritage.
- Renowned engravers Melecio Figueroa and Charles Barber collaborated on the coin’s intricate details. The reverse side features an eagle with wings spread above a shield, a powerful emblem representing the United States, the governing body at the time. This iconic eagle motif, coupled with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the year of mintage, reflects the strong influence of American symbolism and craftsmanship in the coin's design. The reeded edge adds further detail, enhancing both the coin's aesthetic and its durability for circulation.
- Struck from silver with a .750 purity, this coin is of round shape, weighing 4 grams and measuring 20.86 mm in diameter. These specifications were carefully designed to match the currency standards of the time, making it suitable for daily transactions. With coin alignment and milled technique, the coin was expertly crafted in both Philippine and American mints, including the Manila Mint and the U.S. Mints in San Francisco and Philadelphia. The small type 20 Centavos remains a piece of numismatic artistry, encapsulating the shared history and intricate craftsmanship from an era long past.
