- Functions: The 326628-763 draft inducer motor drives the fan wheel that creates a forced airflow through the furnace’s heat exchanger and exhaust vent. When the furnace calls for heat, the inducer motor starts first to remove combustion byproducts (flue gases) and establish proper venting. It ensures a negative pressure in the combustion chamber so that gas is drawn in safely and combustion is efficient. Without a working inducer, the furnace cannot safely vent exhaust, so it will refuse to ignite or will shut down for safety.
