Draw Your Town: A Guided Sketchbook To Inspire Your Drawing Ideas

"Draw Your Town" is a carefree sketchbook designed to introduce artists and would-be artists to the idea of just drawing what is around you in your own town. The whimsical cover drawing is by Buffalo, N.Y. artist Mary Kunz Goldman. A longtime reporter for The Buffalo News, Mary loves putting down on paper what is right before her eyes. She details her adventure in the book's introduction and gives a couple of examples of her sketching. The rest of the book is a sketchbook with numbered pages and a prompt on each page suggesting what to draw. The paper in the book is light and suitable for pencil and crayon if you are so inclined (Mary sometimes is) . The idea is not to take the whole business too seriously -- just carry the book around and do quick sketches of what you are seeing. Mary has high hopes for whoever acquires this sketchbook. "I don't want anyone just to keep it clean and look at it," she says. "I want that person to go out and draw." Read more
