This is the story of Buddy Montes, a fifth-generation Indian vaquero, and his wife and partner Laurie Montes. Buddy was born in Tejon canyon and started his cowboy career working for Tejon Ranch in 1978. Laurie is a woman who has always loved horses, and she has been a cowboy right beside her husband for over four decades. Buddy and Laurie are well known for their ability to combine the skills of horseman, cowman and cowboy to make their work appear smooth and quiet. The ways of the cowboy are quickly becoming lost in the modern world. This book shares authentic stories from a life lived on cattle ranches with the hope that the next generation steps into the saddle and maintains the traditions. Read more
