Paper Model Kit Lighthouse Au Sable 1/150 Orel 255 Architecture USA, 1874 Manufacturer: Orel (Ukraine) Scale: 1/150 Material: Paper Condition: New Type: Lighthouse Series: Architecture Country: USA, 1874 Volume: 8 x A4 The Au Sable lighthouse was built in 1874 on the Au Sable Point reef, on the “shipwreck coast” of Lake Superior. The coastline in this area is one of the most beautiful in North America, but since the 1800s it has been considered one of the most deadly due to stormy storms and thick fogs. The lighthouse is a white brick conical tower with a black lantern. A red brick caretaker's house stands next to the lighthouse. The lighthouse was automated in 1958. The caretaker's house has been restored and is open to the public. The lighthouse tower is open to the public in summer. The complex was maintained by the National Park Service, and automated light is controlled by the United States Coast Guard.
