Designed specifically for reef aquarium enthusiasts, this advanced buffer product helps maintain an optimal pH of 8.3 in reef systems where stabilizing pH can be challenging. Unlike standard sodium carbonate solutions, this carefully blended formula raises both pH and carbonate alkalinity, promoting a balanced and healthy marine environment.

Its unique formulation features a higher pK value (8.6) compared to typical marine buffers, providing superior pH stability in closed reef ecosystems. This higher pK counteracts the acidifying effects of organic acids produced by reef inhabitants, ensuring the pH remains within the ideal range of 8.25 to 8.30. This makes it particularly effective in reef tanks with higher bioloads, where maintaining stable conditions is critical for coral and marine life health.

For best results, check your system’s pH and alkalinity before dosing. Use approximately 5 g (one level teaspoon) per 150 liters (40 gallons) to raise the pH by about 0.1 units and increase alkalinity by roughly 0.5 meq/L. Always dissolve the powder in at least one cup of freshwater before adding it to your tank. Regular dosing may be necessary every two weeks to semiweekly, depending on your system’s needs.

It is important not to exceed recommended doses without monitoring, as alkalinity should stay below 6 meq/L to avoid imbalance. If alkalinity limits are reached without achieving a pH of at least 8.20, or if persistent cloudiness occurs, the ionic balance may be off. In such cases, performing a water change or adjusting magnesium and calcium levels to a ratio of approximately 3:1 Mg:Ca (with calcium not exceeding 400 mg/L) will help restore equilibrium.
