When you have your mammogram check following hospital treatment, between 10 and 12 months after surgery if it was the first step in the medical protocol, you are told that you are in remission. For me, this term translated as "I'm cured" when I heard it referred to other patients, before my plunge into this intrusive cancer. But what a surprise to discover that the obstacle course was just beginning for me. "The aftermath" is little known, misunderstood, and very painful for some patients.
